Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu)

One of the world's busiest bridges. 80,000+ vehicles daily. No nuts or bolts — entirely riveted and pinned. Walking across is a Kolkata essential.

- Dawn walk — Cross from Howrah side as city wakes
- Flower market below — Mullik Ghat's morning chaos
- Boat views — Ferries pass underneath
Indian Museum
Built: 1814 (current building 1875) Style: Italian Renaissance Entry: ₹500 (foreigners), ₹75 (Indians) Hours: 10 AM - 5 PM (closed Monday)
India's oldest and largest museum. Eclectic collection — archaeology, art, geology, zoology.

Marble Palace

Eccentric Victorian mansion built by Raja Rajendra Mullick. Still family-owned. Cluttered with European art, mirrors, chandeliers, and a private zoo.
What to See:

BBD Bagh (Dalhousie Square)
Heart of British Calcutta. Colonial buildings surround tank (water body).

Park Street
Colonial buildings, cemeteries, restaurants.
South Park Street Cemetery One of the earliest non-church cemeteries. Elaborate tombs of British residents. Atmospheric, peaceful.
Asiatic Society Oldest learned society in India (1784).

Religious Heritage
Dakshineswar Temple

Kali temple on the Hooghly, where Ramakrishna attained enlightenment. Beautiful setting, peaceful atmosphere.
Getting there: North of city. Taxi or ferry from Belur Math.
Belur Math
Built: 1897-1938 Entry: Free
Headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission. Eclectic architecture blending Hindu, Christian, and Islamic elements. Founded by Swami Vivekananda.
What to See:
- Main temple (unique architecture)
- Ramakrishna's room (preserved)
- Museum

Kalighat Temple
Age: Ancient (current structure 19th century) Entry: Free (donations)
One of 51 Shakti Peethas. Intense, chaotic, very local. Not for the faint-hearted — animal sacrifices occur.
