Anyone can list four hundred hotels in forty cities. You'd still arrive not knowing where to eat on a Sunday, which fort to skip, or that the block-printers welcome visitors if someone calls ahead.
We'd rather know a few places like family. If a hotel could be anywhere, it isn't here. Some places just have something about them — those are the ones that make it in.
It makes us slower to grow and better to travel with. We can live with that.
