Gangtey Lodge

A lodge perched high above the Phobjikha valley, looking down on a 17th-century monastery, traditional farmhouses and mountainsides of Himalayan blue pine. Its identical 46-square-metre suites are done farmhouse-style, each with a wood-burning fireplace and a roll-top bath facing the valley. In winter more than 600 black-necked cranes arrive from the Tibetan Plateau to roost on the valley floor, they are said to circle the monastery as they come.
