The building was a Portuguese mint for silver coins, then the Dutch East India Company's, whose VOC emblem still marks the threshold, then an English plantation manager's bungalow. Eight rooms now, behind scalloped walls off the Parade Ground, restored by Goetz Hagmuller and Bijoy Jain into something part Dutch, part art deco and part nothing at all.
Fort Kochi is a place you have to be walked through to understand. The layers are the point and they are not signposted. Our price carries a guided walk with a local, two nights in the house and breakfast each morning, so the one thing worth arranging is arranged before you arrive.
What you actually do
- Lunch and dinner. Half board is ₹900 per person per day and full board ₹1,800, and we can put either in your quote
- The temple trail, the cooking lesson, the ayurveda and the day out at Kayal on the backwaters, all of which we can add
- Getting there. Kochi airport is about an hour and a half and we can put a car on it
- Anything personal: drinks, tips, laundry
