Purity at Lake Vembanad

Purity is the last house built by Malabar Escapes. The company began in Fort Cochin, where founders who first travelled India in 1972 and returned in 1994 bought an early twentieth century bungalow and opened it in 1997 as The Malabar House. Trinity followed, then the houseboat Discovery, and finally Purity with its purespa, on the shore of Lake Vembanad at Muhamma.

There are five deluxe rooms, five garden suites and four Vembanad suites, the last of these suited to families. Every room has a terrace and a verandah over the water. Antique carved stone pillars stand in the verandahs, and the walls carry contemporary work by Pardeep Puthoor, Abul Kalam and Reghunadhan K. among others, hung beside old sculptures and furniture. The Purity Kitchen cooks on local flavours and runs hour long demonstrations, and there is a lakefront pavilion, an infinity pool along the shore and ayurvedic treatment at purespa. The house is 50 km from The Malabar House and 70 km from Cochin airport, reachable by car or boat, and it is where the group's backwater cruise starts.
