Turia is the main gate of Pench and the resort sits two kilometres from it, so the dawn drive starts at the front of the queue rather than at the end of a forty-minute transfer. This trip carries two drives into the core, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, in a Gypsy that is yours alone. The permit, the forest guide and the taxes are inside the figure.
Pench is the forest Kipling wrote The Jungle Book about: the Pench river, teak and the Seoni hills, with tiger, leopard, wild dog, gaur and more than two hundred species of bird. The resort books the drives through its own safari desk, and permits open 120 days ahead, so the earlier you tell us your dates the better your gate.
Tathastu is the large, well-equipped resort at the Turia gate, with eighty-odd rooms in seven styles: log rooms, mud rooms with 18-inch walls under kavelu tiles, villa rooms with a sit-out onto the gardens, luxury tents, treehouses, cave rooms with a waterfall for a shower and villa suites. Two restaurants, a bar, a temperature-controlled indoor pool, archery, cycling and a spa fill the hours when the park is shut.
It is a hotel rather than a camp, and for a first safari with children that is the point: a pool for the afternoon, a bar for the evening and the gate ten minutes away.

Log Room
The simplest rooms on the estate, listed with the peace rooms as the economy category on the resort’s own tariff.
Mud Room
18-inch thick mud walls and a 15 to 20 foot roof under traditional kavelu tiles, which the resort says keep the room naturally cool. Two adults and one child.
Villa Room
Rooms in the villas with a private sit-out onto the gardens, in the resort’s deluxe category. Two adults and two children, or three adults.
Mud Villa
Mud-built villas in the resort’s red, yellow and orange colour themes. Two adults and two children, or three adults.
Luxury Tent
Canvas rooms with plush bedding, air conditioning, television and a mini fridge, which the resort pitches as sleeping under the stars with every convenience.
Treehouse
Raised rooms among the trees, which the resort describes as feeling on top of the world. Two adults and one child.
Cave Room
Built into rock with a waterfall for a shower, in the resort’s suite category. Two adults and two children, or three adults.
Villa Suite
The largest room: a bamboo grove on one side for bird watching and the activity lawn and lake in front. Two adults and two children, or three adults.

Not in the price: Getting to Pench. Nagpur is about two hours away, and we can put a car on it; A third drive, or the forest department's weekend supplement on a Saturday or Sunday drive, which we add to your quote; Anything personal: drinks, the spa, tips, laundry.

Getting there, and the small print
The park, the gates and the fees
Pench Tiger Reserve is in Madhya Pradesh. Gates, opening season and zone allocation are on the Pench page, and the permit, jeep and guide fees every Madhya Pradesh visitor pays are set out in what a safari costs. Our price already carries the drive.
Good to know
Nagpur (NAG) is the nearest airport, 99 km and about two hours by road. Jabalpur is 196 km.
Pench's core zone is closed on Wednesday afternoons and from 1 July to 30 September. We plan the two drives around the Wednesday closure, and this trip is sold for the months the core is open.
The drive is a full Gypsy, not a shared seat. It takes six, so the price is the same for two of you as for six, and a second couple costs nothing extra on the vehicle.
The forest department allots the zone on the day. We ask for the one you want and cannot promise it.

What we handle for you
The resort's safari desk books the Gypsy, the permit and the forest guide under your names, and we hold the booking from the moment you confirm. The forest department allots the zone; we ask for one and the park can change it on the day, so nobody can promise a zone.
Permits need a photo ID for every guest, so we ask for those early. The weekday drive is in the price; a Saturday or Sunday drive carries a small forest-department supplement that we show on your quote before you pay.
