Haveli Dharampura sits behind a cusp arched gateway in the heart of Old Delhi, a Mughal era house whose thick stone walls screen the rooms from the noise of the surrounding streets.
The building was restored from the brink of dereliction, and the work was recognised with UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation. That restoration is the reason to come: this is a working piece of the old city rather than a hotel built to look like one.
Rooms are Indian boutique in style with modern amenities, and the house is arranged around its living spaces, including jharoka rooms, the Diwan-e-Khas and the Shahjahan suites. Dining is at Lakhori, and the haveli runs cultural experiences through the week alongside its rooms.

A four-room bed and breakfast in a house in Safdarjung Enclave, styled, its owner Caroline says, on her grandmother's Anglo-Indian home in Calcutta. The rooms, Iris, Rose, Jasmine and Lily, take their names from the flower-named daughters and aunts of Anglo-Indian families; each is different, with its own bathroom and a balcony or terrace. The kitchen cooks home-style Anglo-Indian, Bengali and Delhi dishes, and the house is fully staffed through the day.
