This is the real old Udaipur. Not a resort on the ring road, but a haveli built onto the ghats of Lake Pichola, a few steps from the City Palace, that traces back to 1834. Breakfast at Jharokha is taken beneath a ceiling of thousands of tiny mirrors, its arched windows open onto the water. Sunset belongs to the Chandni rooftop, where the tables face the Lake Palace and the Aravallis turn pink across the lake. Twenty-seven keys, a lakefront spa, an in-house bakery, and complimentary boats and tuk-tuks to carry you into the lanes.

Jagat Niwas Palace is at 23-25 Lalghat, Udaipur 313001, on the lakefront of Lake Pichola adjacent to the City Palace, with views of the sun setting beyond the Aravalli Hills.
It is a restored lakeside haveli built in the early 17th century, described by the hotel as a stellar example of Mewari architecture, and now runs as a 27-key boutique property.
There are six categories: Presidential Lakeview, Jagat Suite Lakeview, Heritage Lakeview, Jagat Suite Non-Lakeview, Haveli and Standard. Lakeview rooms are positioned so the views over Pichola are maximised.
Chandni is the rooftop al-fresco venue (17:00–23:00) and Jharokha is the lake-facing restaurant (07:00–23:00) with window seats perched atop Lake Pichola; there is also the Global Bar. Rajasthani thalis are served 12:30–22:00 and need a 24-hour advance order.
Check-in is 2 pm and check-out 12 noon. Late checkout is complimentary until 1 pm if no rooms are waiting, then 50% of the current rate until 4 pm and 100% after that.
Children aged 8 or under stay complimentary without an extra bed (breakfast is chargeable for ages 5–8), and an extra bed is chargeable from age 9. Pets are not allowed on the premises.
