A mansion-style stay in Pondicherry's French Quarter where whitewashed arches and high ceilings meet the salt-air bustle of the Tamil coast just outside the door.
"Thirteen colour-themed rooms and home cooking, minutes from the Taj"
Agra is usually a four-hour photo stop. Ekaa Agra is the case for staying the night. Three friends, one of them from a family the hotel says has 160 years of history in the city, opened it in 2018 as a love letter to Agra beyond the Taj. Architect Ipsita Mondal threaded mihrab arches, inlay-work patterns and curved walls through 13 rooms, each themed around a single colour. Breakfast means aloo bedawain and sugar-stuffed chini parathas from recipes collected off aunts and grandmothers, produce comes from farms within 50 km, and the in-room snacks are petha and dalmoth rather than shortbread. Add heritage walks, a Secret Taj high tea and a river safari, and you have a small, personal base camp in a city most visitors never actually meet.
Some facilities and experiences may be chargeable.
