The Manor was built in the 1950s and stands in close to an acre of secluded garden inside the tree lined South Delhi enclave of Friends Colony.
It is Delhi's original boutique hotel, and has spent seventy years re-imagining itself rather than trading on the year it opened. The look is described by the hotel as Zen, and the pitch is privacy and calm within the city rather than grandeur.
What guests get is a small hotel with bespoke service, its own dining, and a garden that does the work a lobby usually does. The house is also used for weddings, and its position in a residential enclave keeps it away from the hotel districts.

A four-room bed and breakfast in a house in Safdarjung Enclave, styled, its owner Caroline says, on her grandmother's Anglo-Indian home in Calcutta. The rooms, Iris, Rose, Jasmine and Lily, take their names from the flower-named daughters and aunts of Anglo-Indian families; each is different, with its own bathroom and a balcony or terrace. The kitchen cooks home-style Anglo-Indian, Bengali and Delhi dishes, and the house is fully staffed through the day.
