Thirteen Rooms and a Grudge Against the Day Trip
Ekaa Agra is a 13-room boutique hotel that treats Agra as the destination, not the photo stop. Colour-soaked rooms, home recipes, real neighbourhood.

Most visitors give Agra four hours. Train in, Taj, thali, train out. Ekaa Agra exists to argue with that itinerary, and it argues rather well.
Ekaa is technically a brand, Ekaa Hotels, started in 2018 by three friends: Udit, who runs the tour company Travelsense India, Vasu, who helped build the much-awarded Jugaad Hostels, and Abid, a former corporate sales man who swapped the suits for something warmer. For now the brand means one property, a 13-room boutique hotel in Taj Nagri Phase 2, opposite the Courtyard by Marriott and a short hop from the Taj Mahal itself. The hotel says Udit's family history in the city goes back 160 years, and that an ancestor co-founded Agra College in 1823. That is their story to tell, but it explains the tone of the place. This is a hotel built by people with an address in the city, not a spreadsheet.
Architect Ipsita Mondal designed the building as a quiet riff on the Taj, straight lines for the masculine, curved bedroom walls for the feminine, with traces of mihrab arches and inlay-work patterns worked through the interiors. Each of the 13 rooms is themed around a single colour. The categories run from 250 square foot Queen rooms up to two 430 square foot Grand Kings, with King rooms and balcony Kings in between. The details are the giveaway: French press coffee, organic toiletries in refillable bottles, and a little tray of petha and dalmoth, the local snacks, instead of the usual sad biscuits. No single-use plastic anywhere, water arrives in glass.
The menu was assembled from family recipes, the sort gathered from aunts, grandmothers and neighbours, and the kitchen works farm-to-table with produce sourced from within 50 km. Breakfast is where Agra shows off: aloo bedawain, the puffed stuffed bread with spicy potato curry, and chini parathas, the sugar-stuffed flatbread every Agra child apparently grew up on. There is even a seasonal tonic called the Elixir of Life, a recipe from Udit's mother.
Then there are the experiences, and this is where staying longer earns its keep. The hotel runs tours with names like Secret Taj and Rural Agra, a Secret Taj High Tea, an old city heritage walk, a crafts trail, and a river safari along Agra's riverbanks. Agra Fort is 5.4 km away, Itmad-ud-Daula 8.4 km, and Fatehpur Sikri makes an easy 42.8 km outing.
It is not a palace hotel and does not pretend to be one. It is something rarer in Agra: a small, personal, well-fed base camp in a city most people never actually meet.
