Ajit Bhawan

Ajit Bhawan was built in 1927 in local red sandstone as a royal address for Major-General Maharaj-Dhiraj Sir Ajit Singh of Marwar-Jodhpur, son of Maharajah Sir Sardar Singh. In the early 1980s a section of the palace was converted into a twelve-key retreat, which the Ajit Group counts as the beginning of the heritage hotel in India. The Ballroom still holds the family portraits, heirlooms and chandeliers.

Accommodation runs from 325 square foot Deluxe Rooms, each with a veranda over a courtyard fountain, through Vintage Rooms with stonewashed walls, Vintage Tents pitched in the garden, and Ajit Suites with marble bathrooms and private patios, to an 1,852 square foot Presidential Suite with its own courtyard. The Vintage Suites are hung with antique military armaments and hand-crafted horse saddle displays and have stone bathtubs.

There are five places to eat and drink: the Jodhpur Cafe, open around the clock; the al fresco Garden Restaurant, with Rajasthani folk music and dance; the Dhani, built with mud walls and thatched roofs; the J-Bar, with an oak-wood floor; and the Champa Court, flanked by trellised columns. Also the Ajit Spa, a fitness centre, and a pool overlooking the Garden Restaurant.
