Jodhpur trips from ₹19,999 per person, everything in the price ↓
Jodhpur is the second of two stops on Jaipur & Jodhpur 4 nights · with Jaipur · from ₹24,999 per person See it →Jodhpur is the second city of Rajasthan and the easiest of the big four to love on a first visit: one fort that you can see from everywhere, an old town painted blue beneath it, a market with a clock tower at its centre, and a ring of family-run forts in the country around it. It sits between Jaipur and Jaisalmer on the road west, which is why most people give it two nights on the way through and wish they had given it three.

Quick facts
Founded: 1459, by Rao Jodha of the Rathore clan, who moved his capital here from Mandore Known as: the Blue City, for the old town, and the Sun City, for the weather Region: Marwar, the old Rathore kingdom Best time: October to March Airport: Jodhpur (JDH), about five kilometres from the centre Rail: Jodhpur Junction, on lines to Jaipur, Delhi, Jaisalmer and Mumbai
Getting there
By air. Jodhpur airport has daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai, and connections through them from the rest of India. It is a small airport and fifteen minutes from most hotels.
By train. Overnight trains from Delhi and daytime services from Jaipur. The Jaisalmer line runs on through the desert.
By road. Jaipur is roughly six hours, Jaisalmer five, Udaipur five to six through the hills, Pushkar and Ajmer about four. On our journeys the same private car and driver takes you the whole way, so the drive is part of the trip rather than a transfer.
Getting around
The old city is for walking; nothing else fits its lanes. Auto-rickshaws cover everything else in town for short hops, and a car with a driver for the day is the way to reach Mandore, the Bishnoi villages, Osian or the countryside forts. The fort is a steep walk from the old city or a short drive to the gate.
How many days
Two nights is right for a first visit: the fort and Jaswant Thada on one morning, the blue lanes and the Clock Tower in the late afternoon, Umaid Bhawan's museum and a rooftop dinner on the second day. A third night is best spent not in the city at all but at one of the forts and garhs an hour out.
What to do
Things to do in Jodhpur: the fort, the blue city on foot, the stepwell, the market, the palace museum, the Rock Park, and the villages and temples beyond the city, with how long each takes and when to go.
