Camp TigerLily sits on the edge of the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in the Himalayan Terai. The camp calls this one of India's least visited and most rewarding wildlife landscapes, which is the reason to come here rather than to a busier park.
Safaris run by guided jeep across three areas, Dudhwa, Kishanpur and Katarniaghat, tracking tigers, rhinos and elephants among others. For birds the numbers are the argument: over 450 species have been recorded, from the Bengal florican to migratory waterfowl, and there are dedicated birding drives and walks.
Nature walks go out with the camp's own naturalist guides. The camp measures itself on more than sightings, counting the difference it makes to the people who live and work around it.
An 80-year-old hunting lodge in the Terai, within the wildlife corridor around Dudhwa: country of grasslands, forest and freshwater ponds that holds tigers, rhinos and sloth bears. Suites and villas, some brick-built, surround an outdoor pool; dinner is at the Jaagir Pavilion, drinks and finger food at the Safari Club. Safaris here are notably uncrowded.
