The Mountbatten Lodge is a family owned country retreat in the Aravalli Hills near Ranakpur, set midway between Udaipur and Jodhpur. It was conceived and designed by Reggie Singh, son of Maharaj Madan Singh, and built as a colonial style hunting lodge rather than a conventional hotel.
There are seven suites in total, four Mountbatten Suites and three in the Edwina Villa, which keeps the feel closer to a private residence than a hotel. The lodge takes its name from a long held local story that Lord Mountbatten once camped in this valley.
It sits quietly on the edge of the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, within easy reach of the Ranakpur Jain Temples and Kumbhalgarh Fort. Safaris into the surrounding country remain the centre of the experience, and many guests stop here on the road between the two cities and then stay longer.
New A relocated palace: in 2002 some 65,000 pieces of a crumbling 18th century palace were carried from near Jodhpur and rebuilt at Ranakpur, among orchards on a rain fed river. Eighteen rooms and suites, close to the Ranakpur Jain temples.
