Pal Haveli

Pal Haveli was built more than two hundred years ago by the noble family of Thakur Umaid Karan Ji, the Thakurs of Pal. After independence, as thikanas sold their mansions and the government seized monarchical assets, the family kept the house and its collection of guns, vintage utensils, paintings and artefacts held across 17 generations. They describe it as the only living haveli among the 700 havelis of Jodhpur. Restoration ran two years and left the structure intact, and the haveli opened to guests in 2005 with four rooms. It now has 21.

It stands at Gulab Sagar near the Clock Tower, under Mehrangarh Fort. An arched door opens into a courtyard shaded by a hundred year old neem tree. Darikhana, the patio where male guests once slept under the arches during festivals, is now the reception. The Zenana courtyard, the women's side, holds a prayer hall with palanquins, a vintage cradle, Isar Gangaur idols and a fountain. The 19th Century Bar keeps vintage weapons and saddle bar chairs.

Indique, the open-air rooftop restaurant, looks across to Mehrangarh, Umaid Bhawan, Jaswant Thada and the Clock Tower. Daudi, a former ladies' courtyard one level down, is the open-air bar. Jodhana is the indoor dining room, its jharokhas over Gulab Sagar.
