RAAS Jodhpur

RAAS Jodhpur is built around an 18th-century haveli in the north-eastern quarter of the walled city. Four historic buildings survive on the site. The Darikhana, the Chamber of Carpets, went up at the end of the 18th century as the haveli's guest house. The Baradari, added in the 1850s as the Thakur's entertainment pavilion, keeps the twelve pillars that give it its name. The old stables are now alcoves for reading, and a small 18th-century temple closes one side of the courtyard. Craftsmen restored the sandstone with lime mortar, and three modern buildings in the same red stone were set around a large pool.

There are forty rooms and suites, from 481 sq ft Luxury and Garden Rooms up to the 1,250 sq ft Stepwell Suite, finished in pink sandstone, black terrazzo and Jodhpur blue. Almost every one looks at Mehrangarh, 400 feet above the city. Five places to eat include the all-day Baradari and the Darikhana terrace above the old stables, where the spices come from a 200-year-old shop in Old Delhi. There is also a heated pool and a spa.
