Plenty of hotels borrow the word heritage; this one wears it on its walls. Umaid Mahal is covered in frescos, jharokas and intricate carvings in the traditional Rajasthani manner, and the family behind it — Wing Commander Bhim Singh Rathore (Retd.) and his wife Arti, of the royal family of Borunda — run it under the old motto *Athiti-Devo Bhawa*: guests are gods.
Rooms range from Standards to Suites, designed and furnished, as the hotel puts it, to showcase the skill of Rajasthani artisans — European-style bathrooms, enclosed balconies on most, Wi-Fi throughout. Downstairs, the centrally air-conditioned Taikhana restaurant serves multi-cuisine dishes under miniature wall paintings, with an adjoining gold-decor lounge bar for cocktails.
The practical case is just as strong: Bani Park is one of the city's oldest, most accessible quarters, with the railway station, bus stand and M.I. Road all about a kilometre away and the walled city at 1.5 km. Buffet breakfast is included, and the hotel collects you free from the train or bus station on arrival.
