Why we love it

"Fourteen rooms and private-pool villas on a 60-acre farm estate begun in 2013, Jamwa Ramgarh outside Jaipur"

The journey to Anopura began on a drizzly morning in 2013, on land in the Aravalli foothills at Jamwa Ramgarh, outside Jaipur. Buildings here are made with lime mortar rather than cement, to keep walls and floors cool and cut the need for air conditioning, and the retreat runs on solar power. The Aditya Baheti Foundation, based at the property, runs handicraft workshops for local women, funds school repairs and organises plantation drives. Anopura was voted one of the best resorts in the world in the Conde Nast Traveller 2024 Readers' Choice Awards, in the Rest of Asia category.

Fourteen rooms sit across 60 acres of farm, curated forest and Aravalli hillside. The Royal Villa Estate runs to 12,500 sq ft with two king bedrooms, a private pool and a thatched Tibari lounge; the all-glass Paradise Villa covers 2,200 sq ft with its own temperature-controlled pool; the 700 sq ft Khet Niwas suite has bay windows facing the farms and hills. Food is grown on the farm and served at The Farmstead and Cherry's Bar, at the Cattle Ranch and under the Tree Pavilion. Over 5,000 trees go in each year along what the property calls its oxygen trail.

The candlelit central courtyard of Samode Haveli at dusk, tables set around a lotus fountain beneath painted arches, Jaipur
Jaipur · Painted Haveli

Jaipur

Down a lane in the old walled city, behind high gates, the Samode family's Jaipur townhouse hides a run of painted courtyards, frescoed halls, and a lotus-fountain garden you dine around by candlelight. Around 225 years old and still family-run, one of the loveliest heritage stays in the Pink City.

Jaipur · City Palace Hotel

Jaipur

A 19th-century thikana palace in the middle of Jaipur, still run by the Diggi family who built it, some eighteen acres of courtyards, arched gateways and lawns behind the city walls. Home of the Jaipur Literature Festival since 2006, and a genuinely warm, unstuffy heritage stay the rest of the year.
