Jungle Vilas

Jungle Vilas is a resort at Khilchipur village on the Ranthambhore side of Sawai Madhopur, built around what the house calls the region's largest swimming pool. It is a Consortium property, and the rate we hold is their Indian package rate: every meal and every tax inside it.

Three ways to sleep

Deluxe rooms take a partial view of the Aravalli range, with king or twin beds, modern amenities and soft lighting, in the resort's own words. Pool-facing deluxe rooms look over the pool from a private balcony or sit-out. Premium cottages sit in the greenery with a private sit-out and the plushest bedding on the property.

The biggest pool in the district, and the park a short drive down the road.

Between the drives

There is a spa for full-body massages, aromatherapy and traditional treatments, an open-air dining area, an executive bar, a garden and a terrace. Outside there is cycling and badminton; inside, chess and carrom. The resort arranges safaris into Ranthambhore, visits to the fort, bird-watching tours and, further afield, boat trips on the Chambal for gharial and river dolphin.

Our take: the sensible mid-range base at Ranthambhore for a family, priced on the package plan so there is nothing to add for meals, with the pool for the hours the park is shut.
