Most Jaisalmer hotels look at the fort; Killa Bhawan is part of it. The hotel is discretely nested in three bastions of the Fort walls, and the hotel itself calls it "the best place to stay in the fortress of Jaisalmer" — from its terraces you get the fort, palace and desert in what the owners describe as an Arabian Nights setting.
It is genuinely small: three artistically decorated Deluxe Heritage rooms with antiques and marble flooring, two Heritage rooms with city and fort views, and three adjoining Heritage rooms in a private family section. The scale is the charm — this feels like staying in a collector's home in the ramparts, not a hotel.
The practical stuff is generous for the price bracket: breakfast on order, unlimited mineral water, free tea and coffee all day, free Wi-Fi, free train-station pick-up, and vegetarian meals on request. The family also runs KB Lodge and the multi-level KB Café opposite Patwa Haveli in the old city, plus jeep and camel safaris into the Thar — including a night sleeping out in the desert.
