Jaipur to Jodhpur
The drive west, about 335 km past Ajmer into Marwar. Break at Pushkar's ghats or Kishangarh's marble town if the mood takes you; you arrive in the blue city by evening.

Part of the palace Sir Ajit Singh Ji of Jodhpur commissioned as his residence, begun in 1927 under British architect Sir Henry Lanchester and now run as a heritage hotel by his descendants. 'Ranbanka', master of battles, was the battle-honour of Jodhpur's Rathore clan.

Jodhpur to Jaisalmer
The desert road west, about 285 km and near enough toll-free, the country emptying as you go. Arrive with the fort glowing gold in the late light.

The Jaisalmer Resort sits in a quiet hotel precinct of the Golden City, a short walk from Jaisalmer Fort and the marketplace.
